Tawang
Grelleng is a small village comprising about 52 households who follow a Buddhist philosophy of life. Incidentally, this community had skilled residents who were master masons and craftsmen of the famed Tawang Monastery. The buildings and the built environment of this small village represent diverse vernacular traditions, traditional crafts along with a host of intangible cultural traditions. This is a living village; the local community wants to explore the possibility of revitalizing the original cultural ambience in a sustainable way. Today there is an emerging trend of tourism that seeks authentic cultural experience - space, architecture, craft traditions, lifestyle, dress and cuisine, nature. LGHV has approached SAVE through ACT. SAVE has already successfully promoted ‘Incredible India’ campaign- a community based rural tourism project in India and has a multi-disciplinary team and expertise for the assigned task by the LGHV. On September 2024, an inception report has been presented outlining the overall approach to transform it into a model tourism village - outlining ways to make it a sustainable development programme. These are based on the first-hand experience, survey and photographic documentation of the site, the region and its cultural attributes.
